Days 71 - 74

Miramar Beach, Florida, to New Orleans, Louisiana

We had originally planned to spend 7 nights camping in Orlando. This would have given us plenty of time to visit the Disney World parks, Universal Studios, and maybe even Cape Canaveral. But Hurricane Milton had cut our Orlando stay short by 5 days. We now had to decide how to reschedule our trip. The first thing we did was stay 4 nights in Miramar Beach, instead of the original 2 nights. This is a very pleasant place to stay! The beach sands are almost as white as sugar, the ocean water is almost as clear as tap water, and it's not quite as warm as bath water but it's a very pleasant temperature and very easy to jump in head first! John grew up near the beach in Los Angeles and it really brought back very fond memories of his youth. Being in the gulf there weren't any ocean waves to speak of, so John couldn't enjoy bodysurfing like he used to. But, he still really enjoyed two days of relaxing on the sand and in the water. (I'll tell you in a future blog how we decided to use the three additional days.)

Not a bad place to hole up!

Our friend Loni had heard that we were staying there and did some web-surfing about the area. She found this article that described a nearby beach area that had been written-up for its similarity to Santorini, Greece,

We took a short drive and checked it out for ourselves. Very posh!

Even the truck is white!

We updated our wall map and then said goodbye to Miramar Beach and headed to New Orleans.

We passed through Alabama and Mississippi and on into Louisiana. Along the way we got gas at a Buc-Ees gas station. These things are iconic in the south, so we had to check it out.

We pulled into our campsite in New Orleans and were pleased to see it is right on a waterway. Docked right across from us is the riverboat City of New Orleans. This will be our camping view these next few days as we check out New Orleans!
