Day 17-18

Playa del Rey to Escondido

It was another short day of driving as Escondido is only about 100 miles from Los Angeles. We were looking forward to two activities during our 2-day stay in Escondido. One is to catch up with Susan's other two brothers (you'll recall we caught up with her third brother in Las Vegas) and the other is to visit the newly opened elephant exhibit at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

And then we spent the next day with all kinds of animals.

You can see that I wrecked the Range Rover. We'll need Matt's Off-Road Recovery to get it out.

We accomplished both! We enjoyed a nice evening with Tom, Jim and Stacey at the Stone Brewery.

We saw Lions and Tigers (but no bears)...

... and plenty of Rhinos.

Kangaroos and Cheetahs...

Okapi and Wildebeest...

Cape Buffalo and there was a new baby Gazelle

Giraffes!

Which includes this newborn who's still getting his legs figured out.

And then we hit the Elephant exhibit, which was done to allow close-up encounters.

We had a wonderful time there. Susan's cell phone indicates that we walked over 12,000 steps!

Tomorrow we're off to Faria Beach in Ventura to 'chill out.
