Day 10-12
Kodachrome Basin State Park to Kanab

Our final destination in Utah is Kanab. Along the way we passed by Zion Canyon National Park. We'd been there before and decided not to detour to the park. But, the surrounding landscape hinted at the Zion geology.

Kanab is a cute mid-sized town with spectacular canyon views, but it is also the home of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. It is the largest such Sanctuary in the country, sitting on over 6000 acres of land, and is dedicated to finding forever homes for all kinds of animals. They have dogs and cats, of course, but also pigs, horses, goats, birds, and reptiles. They offer a free 90-minute tour of their compound to any interested persons, which we signed-up to do.
First, we checked out the town of Kanab.

Then we headed over to the Animal Sanctuary for lunch. They have lots of employees and volunteers that they have their own cafe to feed them all. They open this Cafe to the public as well and only charge $5 for the whole meal! Considering how they feel about animals, their menu is always Vegan, but it was still very delicious.

Not only was the meal excellent, but the view is spectacular!

Then we began the tour.

As we headed back to our campsite, we stopped off at an Amazon Locker location outside a local grocery store. A plastic part on our toilet had snapped off and our toilet had been out-of-service for a day. But, thanks to the internet, John was able to watch YouTube videos on how to replace the broken part. We were also able to order the part and have it delivered all during our stay in Kanab. Crisis averted!
The Sanctuary is also a popular place for student field trips.
Tomorrow we say goodbye to Utah and head south to Las Vegas!
