Days 54 - 56

Southampton, New Jersey, to Washington DC

It was a pleasant drive through the rest of New Jersey, through a corner of Pennsylvania as well as a corner of Delaware and into Maryland. Our route took us around Baltimore and to the outskirts of the DC area. We would be staying at this campground for four nights, giving us three days to explore the DC area. John had a group of friends in high school that included Jocelyn Ferris. Through the magic of the internet & Facebook, John and Joce have been staying in touch, and this trip gave them an opportunity to meet-up after 51 years! We met Skip, Joce's husband, and had a very enjoyable afternoon catching up. Needless to say, none of us have changed a bit!

We spent the next couple of days exploring our nation's Capitol. We took advantage of the subway to get into the Capitol Mall area, and then their Circulator bus to cruise around all the key buildings and memorials. It rained most of the time, so outside photos were rare.

.... and the Smithsonian Museum of American History.

Key attractions were the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum ....

We also had a fine lunch at Old Ebbitt Grill, right across from the US Treasury Building.

It even felt like our dog, Hobbs, had joined us for lunch!

Tomorrow we press on to North Carolina and see what it has to offer.
