Days 52 & 53

Newport, Rhode Island to Southampton, New Jersey

This day of traveling was about 300 miles, as we went through the heart of lower New York and over the George Washington Bridge into New Jersey. In planning this mega-trip, we intended to drive for no longer then 6 hours in a day - and the thinking was that we could cover today's 300 miles in 6 hours. It was very slow going for many miles and it was closer to 8 hours before we arrived. Ugh!

Along the way we drove through Connecticut. We made a slight detour and drove past John's home where he lived from birth until the age of 5.

The Connecticut countryside was very pretty as people are now preparing for autumn. Susan snapped these pictures out the truck window, which explains the slightly fuzzy image. Note the color of the leaves of the trees - still very much green!

Per their web site: "Muddy Paws Farm Rescue provides a loving, forever home to farm animals in need. Located on 11 acres in Southampton, NJ, Muddy Paws Farm is home to over 100 farm animals, including goats, donkeys, cattle, horses, and an ever-growing gang of bunnies, peacocks, turkeys, geese, chickens, roosters, ducks and barn cats." We got the tour and saw most of these rescued and happy animals.

We camped next to the Goat Pen and John got to feed them. Later two of the goats began jousting (the white one and the mottled one) and interestingly, this third goat (all white with the brown head) really tried to interject himself in the skirmish and break things up.

The next morning we'll be heading on to Maryland where we will be touring the nation's capitol.

Our stop for the night was Muddy Paws Farm Rescue Sanctuary. (They are members of the Harvest Hosts program, which I described in an earlier post.)
