Days 3&4
Kingman to Monument Valley

Today was also a long day of driving - about 320 miles. We departed Kingman and began slowly climbing toward Williams, which is at about 7000 feet of elevation.
It was nice to enter a pine forest zone with snow-capped mountains off in the distance.
We stopped for lunch at the Frontier Family BBQ in Williams. We had dined there on previous trips and knew to expect good food and nice place to eat outdoors with Hobbs. (He helped me finish my Pulled-Pork sandwich.)

Our destination was Gouldings Resort, which included a campground. Gouldings started out as a trading post back in 1924 right on the border with the Navajo Nation.
After Williams we traveled past Flagstaff and then headed north towards Utah. The landscape slowly changed and became a lot more orange.

As we approached Monument Valley, we snapped a picture at the well-documented location where the running-man-scene from Forrest Gump was shot. Lots of other people were doing the same thing.

In the campground wild dogs run free. This one puppy took an immense liking to Hobbs and basically stuck by our trailer all the time we were there. She really wanted Hobbs to play with her, but Hobbs was indifferent and tried to ignore her as best he could. Are those the cutest dog ears you've ever seen?
At this one stop we bought some Frybread as a snack.
They were also charging $20 to sit on a horse overlooking John Ford's Point. (We took pity on the horse and declined.)
The next day we drove the short distance into the Navajo Nation and took the off-road trip to several more majestic buttes. Two of these in this picture are called Left Mitten and Right Mitten.
Tommorow we press on to Moab!
This one is called Elephant. Do you see it?

This one is called Camel.
