Days 3-4

We departed Yakima and headed north on Hwy 97 to the border, passing through such small towns as Chelan, Washington. This included a lunch stop at The Wagon Wheel Bar & Grill, which was enjoyable but also took an hour longer than it should have.

The smoke in the air was still pretty bad.

With our batteries now recharged, we plan to explore the nearby surrounding beauty of the Canadian Rockies.

We continued on to the border. The wait at the border crossing was about 30 minutes, but once we got to the agent we were through in 3-4 minutes after answering a few questions. The town on the BC side of the border is Osoyoos and we followed along Lake Osoyoos as we continued north. It was now about 4:30 and we still had about 170 miles to go to our next stop in Chase, BC. We were making very poor time on these country roads and after about an hour John had had enough driving for the day. We were passing the town of Peachland which is on the Okanagan Lake and John found an RV park right on the lake that had two vacancies for the night. With a great sigh of relief, we called it a day at this nice camping spot called Todd's Lakeside Resort.
We pressed on the next day for our fourth day of all-day driving. We turned off of Hwy 97 and onto the Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 1.) Our destination was Golden, BC, which is at an elevation of 800 meters (2625 feet.) We'll be staying here for four nights which will give us a chance to relax and enjoy what Canada is all about. (Aboot.)
We all enjoyed sleeping-in the next morning with no sense of urgency. We drove into town and had a nice lunch at a restaurant called The Island . It overlooks a swift moving river that flows through Golden.
It was a Sunday, the opening of the NFL season. Hobbs helped us watch the San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks in a close nail-biter game.
