Day 91

West Wendover to Verdi, Nevada

The wind died down somewhat last night, but picked up again slightly in the morning. Nevada is amazingly barren and driving through it is quite monotonous. It was still very cold in the morning and at times we drove through some snow flurries that melted the instant they hit the ground.

Finally we got to the outskirts of Sparks followed by Reno and Verdi. I had never been very fond or impressed with Reno, but a local recently informed that Reno has been changing and growing and was much improved. We could see evidence that there was truth to his point. But, today is not the day for us to check out Reno further. We are heading home from a 3 month trip and will certainly have the opportunity to check out nearby Reno some other time.

We passed through miles upon miles of open desert with the occasional small town offering auto fuel and fast food. We stopped at a Sports Bar in Battle Mountain, Nevada, for a lunch break with food that was a slight improvement over McDonalds. While refueling Susan checked out the Quicki-Mart and saw that they had Red Vines for sale. Susan has been looking for Red Vines ever since they were last spotted in South Dakota. Apparently they only sell Red Vines in the Western half of the US. She found another treat- Twizzlers - pretty much everywhere, but Susan has a strong preference for Red Vines. So, she's now a happy camper!
