Day 90

Thompson Springs, Utah to West Wendover, Nevada

Today we drove through most of Utah. Along the way and just outside of Salt Lake City is the town of Draper, where my cousin Mark lives. They had invited us to take a break from driving and had prepared a home-cooked lunch for us. Yum! We had seen Mark and Amy at the Cousins Reunion in New York on day 40 of our trip, and now we got to see them again as well as their lovely home.

As we continued on to the Nevada border the temperatures dropped and the wind picked up, slowing our progress. Once we arrived at our campground, which is just over the Nevada border, it was slow going for John to secure the rig for the night as his hands kept needing to thaw. Eventually he was successful and we were able to sit back in our toasty rig and watch game 3 of the World Series.

We added Utah to the wall map, and noted that this will be the last state that we will be adding to the map on this epic trip. We still have to travel through Nevada and California before we get home, but these do not represent new states. You can see on the map that there are just fourteen states that we haven't traveled to in this Lance Trailer. That means that we traveled to 35 states on this trip! (We had been to Arizona earlier this year, but not on this trip.) Wow!

With hearts and stomachs full, we pressed on. After skirting Salt Lake City we picked up Interstate 70 as it follows along the Great Salt Lake. Every so often we'd see a salt harvesting operation where they scrape the salt off the exposed and dried seabed into small white hills of pure salt to be loaded into rail cars.
