Day 87
Pawhuska, Oklahoma to WaKeeney, Kansas
We got an early start departing Pawhuska because we had a long day of driving today. We were heading west and north through Oklahoma and on into Kansas. So another state for our map! We headed north into Wichita. As many of you may know, we actually lived in Wichita for one year about 36 years ago. In fact, our daughter, Katie, was born there. We got off the highway and traveled some of the surface streets in Wichita to see our old neighborhood and drive by our old house. It was a nice ranch-style house in a nice neighborhood. We also cruised by the Tallgrass Country Club that we belonged to (for business purposes.) It will forever be the first and last country club that we will ever belong to, but we enjoyed our short membership there. It was fun to see the old 'hood as well as all the changes that have taken place in 36 years.

We then proceeded on to Interstate 70 west and on to WaKeeney, Kansas. We are staying the night at another Harvest Host business, which today is the Desert Rose Inn. We set up in their parking lot and then enjoyed a nice dinner at their Rosie's Cafe. We'll have breakfast at the Cafe tomorrow morning as well before heading west on into Colorado.
While getting a gas fill-up I was walking around the trailer and happened to see this metal shard sticking out of the tread on one of the trailer tires. It doesn't appear to be leaking air, but I switched it out for my recently purchased brand-new spare just to be safe. So now my trailer is running on two brand-new tires and on two fairly-used tires, along with a questionable spare. As we continue on our trip I'll be on the lookout for a tire center that can sell me two more trailer tires. The last thing we need is to be stuck on the side of the highway with a tire failure.
