Day 21-23
Faria Beach to Avila Beach, and then home

During our final night at Faria Beach the wind picked up and it started to rain. We were warm and dry in our trailer but the people in the next campsite were caught off guard. They had optimistically erected a screen room to sleep in, planning that the very pleasant weather we had been enjoying would continue. They must have gone off to have breakfast and get warm somewhere because they weren't around when a gust of wind blew their screen room away, leaving all their belongings uncovered. John retrieved their collapsed screen room from the rocks and laid it back on top of their belongings, along with a rock to weigh it down. We left shortly thereafter and never got the chance to explain to our neighbors what had happened.

It was a relatively short drive to Avila Beach. It rained off and on as we passed through Santa Barbara and Santa Maria. In Avila Beach there is a working harbor complete with a boatyard, fishing boats, restaurants, and launching ramps. They have eight campsites right in the boatyard that overlook the harbor. There is also a dog-friendly beach that is very close by, making this a very optimal place for us to camp. We've camped here a handful of times before and we always look forward to our next visit. It is very relaxing with some enjoyable activities awaiting us. Our first order-of-business was to head up highway 101 a short ways to San Luis Obispo and have lunch at Firestone Grill. Firestone's makes the absolute best tri-tip sandwich we've ever had, and we've made it a tradition to always stop there when we are in the area.

Afterward, we relaxed and just gazed out over the harbor. We saw some sea otters.

Next, Hobbs hit the dog beach for some serious swimming and digging.

And we saw a couple with some paddleboards take their doggies out for a paddle.
John rode his ebike into the quaint town of Avila Beach, They have a pier, which John rode out to the end. Looking back at the shore, John snapped these pics, and even tried a panorama view.

After 23 days on the road, we packed up, including our exhausted doggie, and headed home. It was a great trip, and we're already making plans for our next one!
Beginning mileage 18775.4 Ending mileage 21675.8 This trip took us 2900 miles!
